Eden Girls’ School pupils support hospice patients this winter

Pupils from Eden Girls’ School have been busy spreading festive cheer during December by generously donating treats to support vulnerable members of the community.

The school children prepared more than 30 gift hampers as part of its Festive Winter Gift Programme filled with goodies, such as toiletries and biscuits. On 19 December the hampers were delivered to patients at the Thames Hospice in Windsor, which provides expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in East Berkshire and to clients of South Buckinghamshire and Slough Homeless Our Concern (SHOC), which provides support towards recovery and transformation and helps prevent rough sleeping.

The Festive Winter Programme sees pupils get involved in fundraising activities, donate gifts to people in need of support and give their time volunteering during the festive season to demonstrate their contributions to the wider community through charitable actions.

Year 10 pupil Maryam said: “Taking part in the Festive Winter Gift Programme has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. In the spirit of the festive season, it is important we remember to support those less fortunate than ourselves in our local community.”

Karim Murcia is the Principal of Eden Girls’ School, Slough, said: “I am very proud of our pupils. As a school community we are keen to ensure that people receive gifts this winter so they know that people are thinking of them. It has been very heartening to see our pupils coming together to organise the collection of donations.

“Through our charitable endeavours we aim for it to have a lifelong impact on the girls, so they continue to contribute further to good causes in our local area and realise it can be very rewarding.”
